Dr. Helaina Boulieris
Dr. Boulieris first attended optometry school at the age of 10. It was a snow day, and the elementary school was closed. Her mom was a student at the Illinois College of Optometry, so she packed Helaina up with a Nancy Drew book and took her to class. The book was quickly set aside as she started to listen to lectures about optics, eyeballs, and diseases. A love of vision had begun.
Ninth grade found Helaina working after school and in the summer at her mom’s new Moses Lake Vision Center. As the only employee, she would answer the phone, make appointments, help people pick out glasses, buy frames, run some testing, mow the lawn, and balance the books. All these were great skills to have when she eventually went to optometry school herself.
Dr. Boulieris graduated from Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, Washington, and then was an honors graduate from Walla Walla College. She attended Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honors Society and earned awards in children’s vision and low vision. Dr. Boulieris graduated “With Distinction” in 1989.
After graduation, Dr. Boulieris and her husband, Brent Stanyer, moved to Spokane. She bought a practice from retiring doctor John Smith and renamed it Eye Care Associates. She is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
Dr. Boulieris and her husband have three children and a Schnoodle. She plays the oboe and loves to sing. She is the counselor for the teenage girls in her church’s Pathfinder (scouting) Club, so she can indulge in making s’mores and having sleepovers even though she is grown up. She loves to make things—-especially quilts. She still loves to read. Her passion is long-distance hiking (although she is very slow). She has nearly completed hiking the Washington portion of the Pacific Crest Trail.
Dr. Kristi Woesner
Dr. Woesner grew up in the mountains of western North Carolina. Her journey has since moved her further west. She graduated with a Biology degree from Southern Adventist University near Chattanooga, Tennessee. From there, she attended Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon, and graduated in 2010. Dr. Woesner then completed a residency at the Jonathan M. Wainwright VA Medical Center in Walla Walla, Washington, where she specialized in ocular disease and surgical co-management. For the next 10 years, she served on the island of Guam, where she managed a variety of conditions, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and basic vision therapy. She joined Eye Care Associates in 2021.
Dr. Woesner and her husband, Max, enjoy hiking, backpacking, snow skiing and scuba diving. After their time in the tropics, Dr. Woesner is excited to pursue her passion for horses once again and can be found soaking up the beauty of the Spokane area on the trails with her horse, Keona.
Our Staff
john
John was an optician in North Idaho for many years before joining ECA in the summer of 2023. He also has a degree in Business Administration from Eastern Washington University. John is a husband, a father of three great kids, and a dog lover. In his free time, he plays guitar and enjoys playing and designing tabletop games.
TAYLOR
Taylor is one of our great technicians. She is friendly and great with our patients. She has volunteered with low-vision service organizations in the past to help the partially sighted. Taylor has lived in Spokane all her life. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her dog, taking care of her house plants, and baking.
RHONDA
Rhonda joined our technician team in 2023. Patients like her for her kind and gentle way. She got her degree as an optometric tech at SCC and has worked in the field ever since. Rhonda has lived in Spokane all her life. She likes to garden, cook, and be outdoors. She is a lover of all things furry and feathered. She keeps bees as well.
Alex
Alex joined our staff in 2023. She is our “gal Friday." You will hear her sweet voice when you call in. She helps us get your insurance information pulled together at the time of your exam and does so much more behind the scenes to help keep us running smoothly. Alex loves her dogs—she has a lot of them. She is also very devoted to her family.
Sonya
Sonya joined Eye Care Associates as a technician in 2021. She became our office manager in June of 2023. Both patients and coworkers enjoy her kind and comforting interactions. She has lived in Spokane for 35 years and feels like it is paradise! Her work history is varied and includes work in industries such as construction, health coaching, and retail. In her time away from work, she enjoys the outdoors, crafting, activities that help keep her fit, and spending time with her family.
Antwahan
Antwahan joined our staff in the summer of 2023. He is an optician who has been in the industry for seven years. He has worked both in practices and optical labs, where he has both sold and edged lenses, all to deliver a superb experience for each patient. He earned his bachelor's in communication studies with a minor in business administration. In his free time, he is a national competing slam poet and organizer of community events.
Renee
Renee is our receptionist. She does so much more than answer phones and schedule appointments! She is one of the first smiling faces you see when you walk in the door. She verifies a patient’s insurance benefits, helps answer any questions regarding appointments, collects co-payments, and schedules follow-up appointments. Her expertise with insurance and kindness help keep our clinic running smoothly. Renee moved to the area from the Seattle/Ballard area in 2016 and started working at Eye Care Associates shortly after. She has two daughters who still live in the Seattle area and have each given her a grandchild. She loves to visit them as often as she can. In her spare time, she likes to hike, kayak, or do beadwork.
